Redevelopment of the drainage situation in Marl/Germany
built close to the water
In 1998, the organisation ’Lippeverband’ initiated three projects in Marl, with the common aim to prevent subsidence caused by mining. Current or future changes of the groundwater level or preflood, caused by mining, had to be counteracted by means of suitable measures.
The project was mainly about the construction of conduit-type sewers, a pumping station and the installation of a battery of wells. The conceptual design considered also an existing pumping station, which had to be abandoned. After the project had been completed, the inflows were directed to the new pumping station over a new sewer (DN 2000).
DIEDERICHS took on the control of the overall process encompassing all measures, and project control services for each single measure in all fields of activity.
DIEDERICHS’ involvement in the current planning was necessary to be able to realise the measures efficiently, with minimum total costs (investment and operating costs). It was important to realise the measures before the forecasted subsidence could cause any damages.
Pursuing this aim, DIEDERICHS made suggestions to functional changes of the building geometry of the pumping plant, thus enabling a much more efficient performance and a reduction of operating costs. The budget of 11,2 m € for the complete project could be maintained. In 2002, the pumping plant in Marl-Ost was completed in due time.
